Board Member Spotlight
Roxane Preedin is our Director of Education. She has brought some new ideas and a new energy to our Board.
Roxane works full time at the City of Red Deer as the Controller of Property Taxation. She oversees a small but mighty team of 6 providing everything tax: customer service, system maintenance, website, collections, and tax rate bylaw.
A CPA-CGA accountant with 24 years of accounting experience, she has spent half of her career in private manufacturing. In 2013, Roxane moved to our municipal world and has been in her existing position for 10 years.
"Whether its researching legislation, working on process efficiency, strategizing, or working through interesting collection issues, Property taxation is “never boring”. There is always something new to learn.
I joined the AMTPA because of my appreciation and firm belief of the depth and expertise required to excel in property taxation. I often describe property taxation as a highly specialized account receivable, that is often overlooked as an important contributor to the organizations financial health. Historically, in many municipalities, taxation was seen as a subset or support to the assessment profession. I have come to appreciate the complexities and challenges of Part 10 Taxation under the MGA and the specialized subject matter expertise required. My hope is that AMTPA can elevate the profession and be seen as the trusted “go-to” association for input and advocacy on all things property taxation in Alberta."
